How to Split a PDF in Your Browser
What This Tool Does
The PDF Split & Page Count tool processes PDF files entirely on your device. It can count pages in a PDF, split a multi-page document into individual single-page PDFs, or extract a page range into a single PDF. No file is uploaded — all processing uses pdf-lib running in a Web Worker.
Why Browser-Based PDF Splitting Matters
Most online PDF splitters require you to upload your file to their server, process it remotely, and download the result. That means your document transits through an unknown server you do not control. For contracts, financial statements, medical records, or any confidential document, this is unacceptable. This tool runs pdf-lib entirely in your browser's Web Worker — the file is read, parsed, split, and re-encoded locally. Nothing leaves your device.
Three Modes
Count (default): reads the PDF and reports the total page count. Fast, read-only, useful when you need to know the size of a large document before deciding how to split it.
Split each: splits the PDF into individual single-page PDFs. If your PDF has 10 pages, you get 10 separate PDF files. This is useful for distributing individual pages from a multi-page report or for extracting specific pages for separate processing.
Extract range: extracts a contiguous range of pages into a single PDF. Specify the range as start-end (e.g., 1-3 extracts pages 1, 2, 3). Page numbering starts at 1. Use this mode to trim a large PDF down to the pages you need.
How to Use
- Drop your PDF file onto the upload zone (max 50MB).
- Select a mode: count, split-each, or extract-range.
- For extract-range, enter the page range (e.g., 1-3 for pages 1 through 3).
- Click Convert. For count mode, the page count is displayed. For split-each, the result is a zip of individual pages. For extract-range, the result is a single PDF.
Privacy and Limits
PDF processing happens in a Web Worker using pdf-lib, a pure JavaScript PDF library. Your files never leave your browser. The 50MB size limit ensures the browser can handle the file without running out of memory — very large PDFs (100MB+) may cause the worker to crash due to memory pressure, which is why the limit exists.
❓ Häufige Fragen
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. All processing — page counting, splitting, range extraction — happens in your browser using pdf-lib in a Web Worker. Your PDF never leaves your device.
What is the maximum file size?
50MB. Very large PDFs can cause memory issues in the browser. If you need to process larger files, consider splitting them first with a desktop tool.
How does page numbering work for ranges?
Pages are numbered starting at 1. To extract pages 1 through 3, enter 1-3. The extracted PDF preserves the original page content without re-encoding.
Can I split into individual pages?
Yes. Select "split-each" mode and the tool will generate individual single-page PDFs for every page in the document.
