What This Tool Does
The Word to PDF Converter transforms .docx documents into PDF files — entirely in your browser. Text content, headings, and basic paragraph structure are preserved. This is a simplified converter: complex styling (multi-column layouts, floating images, tables with merged cells, custom fonts) is NOT preserved.
Honest Expectations: What's Preserved vs Lost
Preserved: all text content, paragraph structure, heading hierarchy, bold/italic emphasis, and basic lists.
Not preserved: page-perfect layout, custom fonts, headers/footers, images, tables, multi-column layouts, text boxes, comments, and tracked changes.
Why? PDF is a fixed-layout format — rebuilding a Word document's exact appearance requires a full rendering engine like LibreOffice (hundreds of MB, server-based). Tools like iLovePDF run LibreOffice headless on their servers, which means your document gets uploaded to them. We chose privacy over pixel-perfection: your document is parsed locally with mammoth.js and re-laid-out with pdf-lib. If you need exact formatting, use Word's built-in "Save as PDF" — if you need privacy and quick text-based conversion, this tool is for you.

Why is my formatting different from the original Word file?
This is a simplified converter focused on text content and privacy. Images, tables, custom fonts and complex layouts are not preserved. For pixel-perfect conversion, use Word's built-in Save-as-PDF or Google Docs export.
Why not do full-fidelity conversion like iLovePDF?
Full-fidelity conversion requires a server-side rendering engine (LibreOffice headless), which means uploading your document to a server. We chose zero-upload privacy over layout fidelity.
Are images in my document preserved?
No. This tool extracts and renders text content only. Images, tables and text boxes are skipped.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. mammoth.js parses the document and pdf-lib builds the PDF, both locally in your browser. Your file never leaves your device.
