Statistics Provided
- Word count: total words separated by whitespace, with proper handling of hyphenated words and contractions.
- Character count: total characters including spaces, and characters excluding spaces.
- Sentence count: estimated by counting sentence-ending punctuation (. ! ?) followed by whitespace or end of text.
- Paragraph count: text blocks separated by one or more blank lines.
- Average word length: mean characters per word.
- Reading time: estimated at 200 words per minute (average adult reading speed).

Are hyphenated words counted as one or two?
Hyphenated words (e.g. "well-known") are counted as one word. Contractions (e.g. "don't") are also counted as one word.
Is my document uploaded to a server?
No. All processing — text extraction and counting — happens in your browser. Your documents and text never leave your device.
